Durex Consumer Products, announced this month that it will discontinue using the spermicide Nonoxynol-9 in the production of its condoms, following a series of reports warning that condoms coated with Nonoxynol-9 actually increase the risk of HIV transmission. Condoms coated with N-9 would no longer be for sale and distribution after March 31, 2004.
