It takes a very long time to process very detailed statistical infomation- and the results are in for the year 2000 on STDs.
There were nearly 9.45 million new diagnoses of sexually transmitted disease among people 15- 24 years old.
This age group in numbers of people represents one quarter of the people who are sexually active.
But they represent one half of the people who have newly diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases.
This is partly obviously because this age group is less likely to be married, but it is also becasue they are less likely to use barrier birth control methods cosnistently and correctly.
"15-24-year-olds, who represent one-quarter of sexually
experienced Americans, accounted for nearly half of the 18.9 million
newly diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) nationwide in 2000, according to "Sexually Transmitted Diseases Among American Youth: Incidence and Prevalence Estimates, 2000," in the January/February issue of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health. " |
