Sexuality the world over

This August has been the busiest month the forum has ever had. We have had over 27,000 page views this month alone! This year we are at 171,303 page views.
It is just amazing to me how many people come here for information and how they are from all the world (100 nations at least!)

I want to start a new thread about sexuality and what sexual traditions and laws are like where you live. Some people think we are sexually free in America- but some places in America are not very free at all.

So please tell us what country, state, province, county you are from and what about these questions.......or whatever you think people might find interesting to know about the sexual traditions where you are from.

Can people who are unmarried have sex?
Can women have abortions?
Can you buy condoms in the local store?
Is birth control legal?
Do you have sex education in school?
Can you go on dates alone when you are a teenager 12-18?
Are you supposed to be a virgin when you marry?
How are children treated whose parents are not married?
Can you get divorced?
Is AIDS just a gay disease where you live?
What happens if a man or woman has an affair?
Can people with disabilities marry?
How are gay people treated?
How are trangendered people treated?
How are people who are not the same race or religion who marry treated?

I look forward to reading your responses!
Susan

Malaysia

Q1)Well ppl who are unmarried can have sex and are having sex but it's still looked down upon. Most young couples justify their actions by saying it's not sex but love and they are already getting married.

Q2)Abortions are illegal and would always be illegal over here but some clinic offer their services but all through the back door.

q3)Yup, condoms are readily available at 7-11 and shopping centres but most guys i know don't use it as it's embarassing to buy and for myself i tend to lose my erection by the time i start to put it on.

q4) birth control is allowed as lots of clinics put up posters of birth control pills and implantables.

q5)We dont have sex education in school, just the usual biology lessons.

q6) teenagers go on dates and more and more of them from guys the net. Almost all dates go on behind parents back.

q7) Yes, most guys want their wives to be a virgin.

q8) Havent met any children who have unmarried parents but most of the time who will know that they are unmarried.

q9) Divorce rates are on the increase but most relatives look down on that.

q10) Most ppl assume Aids is a gay disease but there is a strong Anti AIDS movement over here and a lot of awareness campaign going on.

q11) Well they are looked down upon especially if they are married. Ppl dont realise that they just maybe looking for a little love. First thoughts are she is a bad girl or a home wrecker. Always two sides to a story.

q12)DOn't know any disabled ppl nor married ones but my impression is that its not highly looked upon.

q13)More and more gay people around but in high school most are ridiculed and made fun off especially the feminine kinds. But once in college most are left alone or just made as acquaintance. ANd when they are at that age they tend to go to Gay bars and have sex with almost anyone.

q14)transgendered ppl are mostly sex workers over here

q15) different race and religion mariages do go on and most object when not married but when married with kids the society is more acceptive. But ppl do stare.

q10)

Thank you so much for that reply. I had imagined Malaysia to be even more conservative than you describe. You have no sex education in school at all? We don't have enough in the US - but we usually do have some when kids are about 10-11, then again about 16.

Yup, no sex education at all. There was some talk about introducing it into schools but that caused a big ruckus. It depends where you are, if you go to a predominantly muslim town then you would find things like condom scarce. Cities in States like Selangor, Penang, Perak, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak tend to be more open and proactive in their culture but states like Kedah, terengganu, Pahang, Perlis and especially Kelantan are still backwards in their society. Don't get me wrong, the village Malay is friendly and acceptive of all races but there is always a limit. Mostly due to the teachings of who is the religious teacher at their province. We are learning but hopefully without having to endure too many mistakes.

Is AIDS just a gay disease where you live? I don't believe, but I don't know of any AIDS cases in my immediate area.

What happens if a man or woman has an affair? The couple works out their problem, whether it be through discussion, divorce, or whatever.

Can people with disabilities marry? Yes

How are gay people treated? From what I've sen first hand, the same as Heterosexuals. There are some people that treat them as inferior beings, though.

How are trangendered people treated? It's a toss up. Some are treated as they're inferior, some like tehy're just regular everyday people. It just depends on how each individual sees that group of people.

How are people who are not the same race or religion who
marry treated? Most often accepted and treated like the general population. Rare occurances shows some discrimination, but most people are open minded to the idea of inter-racial/ inter-religious relations.

I visit Canada a lot - and I think they are by and large a more liberal country than the US is. We talk a good talk - but Canada walks a better walk. The laws are not as good, but the people don't need some of the laws we seem to need.

The Malaysia answers sound almost identical to Alabama. heh.

Alabama is a pretty backwards conservative province in the U.S. for those of you not familiar.
