Trouble gaining erection during foreplay

Hey Susan,

I have a question about gaining an erection during the foreplay process of sex. I am currently with a girl who has had sex before, but I have not. I don't want to tell her I'm a virgin because I am older than her by a couple years (I'm 20) and I'd just like to keep it a secret (for now at least).

Anyways, last time we were fooling around for quite a bit, she motioned for me to take my shirt off, I did, then she did, they we fooled around some more, and when it came time for the pants to come off I was not hard. How embarassing. Could this be because I am nervous and concentrating too much on gaining an erection (and when I can't I begin to panick) or do you think there is another underlying problem?

I should mention that I have no problems gaining an erection during self-stimulation (masturbation) and I frequently wake up with an erection.

What can I do to help solve this issue?

Performance anxiety. Very simple. Very common. You won;t hav eit when you get used to being with women and having sex. Not much you can do until then.  Just relax!
