post-orchidectomy implant

Hello,

I'm a 25 year-old male who developed a right testicular torsion while sleeping when I was 12. I was misdiagnosed by an ER physician as having an apendicitis. By the time the torsion was discovered, 28-hours later, the testicle had been cut-off from blood flow for too long and an emergency orchidectomy was performed. I was told by the urological surgeon that the remaining, left, testicle was attatched via a silk sutcher to prevent a future problem with the remaining organ.

At a subsequent visit, I inquired about a cosmetic operation to replace the missing testicle. He advised against it at the time, citing problems with silicon breast implants.

My question, after all this ramble, is have their been any advances that might allow for a safe implant that would make me feel more comfortable in sexual situations?

Thanks,

Vance

Vance,

If you live in the US a silcone implant is not a choice for you as they have been taken off the market. A company called Mentor Corporation has one that is available in the US.  It is a silcone bag, but filled with saline, not silicone.

This implant like any other implant has the possiblitliy of the body rejecting it.

These are fairly recently available- so I would suggest you make an appointment with a urolgist to discuss the pros and cons of them.

Susan
