Sadly safe and pleasure are hard to come by when it comes to rimming, Using a dental dam or a piece of saran wrap/cling film over the anus is the safest way - but it will cut down on sensation.
Beng sure to be clean, use of enema - may help.
Using a mouth wash afterwards is a important thing to do if you not use a dental dam. Not one just for flavor, but one that is the stronger kind - Listerine.
This is one of the most unsafe forms of sex when you do not use a dental dam. So in the days to follow, if you get a stomach virus, or diarrhea you should get it checked and be sure your doctor knows you practice rimming.

My suggestion is to put some cream or lube on your hand and rub your boyfriend's ass in a circular motion and you could also try the "prostate massage" on him. I've tried that on myself and it feels pretty good. Gregorio can give you some more information on this.
Edited - Clay just when I post how much better you are doing you get all self-righteous again. Rimming is a very mainstream activity for gay men. Susan

I don't think I was self-riteous in the last post. I didn't say anything negative towards homosexuality (unlike in the past). I was just curious as to why he would want to risk getting anal germs in his mouth by rimming his boyfriend.
Clay, You attacked the person in your post. ALL anal sex, anal play, anal masturbation, anal oral sex presents this risk. Rimming is something LOTS of people do. They asked what was the safest way to do it - and there are ways to do it without risking getting germs in his mouth. If you attacked the act - it would be more-or-less OK, but you attacked the person.

Remember that all forms of sexual activity should be a personal, private issue. And here, they remain private.
Sexual activity, no matter how seemingly crude to you, me, or anybody else, are fine as long as the unwritten rules of safety, cleanliness, responsibility, respect, common sense and privacy apply. Susan is merely enforcing some of these ideas.
It may not be your cup of tea or mine either, but we should respect it with the above observed and know that it happens around us all the time; all over the world.

Very true Gregorio. Just because something may seem weird or different to the rest of us, we should try to be accepting of their sexual practices. I still can't get over the guy who liked having sex with his dolphins. lol.
Clay. Very true, but what you and I think is a little strange or bizzare, may be very commonplace in certain areas.
As far as dolphins go, I guess we need to have an open mind and accept that it is certainly possible in spite of certain obvious compatability issues, if you get my "DRIFT"..

I just heard that scientists have found some physiological proof that homosexual men are different from heterosexual men. What they did (I think) was test the males' reaction to testosterone (male hormone). They found that homosexual males responded in a similar fashion to females when they detect testosterone. I guess they became aroused. But heterosexual males reacted much differently. I suppose this proves that I was wrong in assuming that people choose to be gay.
Clay you haven't got the study quite right. What they were doing was studying pheronomes. The scent that gets people sexually excited. They examined the brain waves of men and women - both gay and staright - to see how they reacted when they smelled the pheronomes of men and women. Men's are apparent in sweat, women's in urine.
They found that straight women and gay men's brain waves responded the same to male sweat and female urine. Straight men repsoned in a different way. Gay women evidently respond in a way that is not as conclusive.
What it does not prove is the origin of homneosexuality or heterosexuality- it simply demonstartesss what scents the heterosexual and homosexual brain responds to. It is unknown whether this is an innate or an acquired difference.

Anal Sex

Susan, something kind of weird happens when I use my dildo for anal masturbation. After applying lubrication and pumping it for a few minutes, I find that I can suck in air with my ass. I just quickly constrict my stomach muscles to push out air and then air is sucked in. Has this happened to anyone else that has anal sex? It almost feels like I can breathe with my ass, weird huh?
Anyone can do this. That is part of the reason you need to use a dildo with a flared bases- the whole thing can get sucked in and stuck deep inside.

I use quite a large home-made dildo that I made out of some old socks wrapped around an old glue stick. Works well. I just put a condom or soft plastic bag over before use.
