Hurting Breasts

Ok, so none of my friends every take me seriously, and now I come to you.

So I guess that you could say that I have big breasts, especially for a short (4ft 10) girl, and for a young girl. I am 14. But recently they've started to hurt a lot... I really think that there is something wrong with them. When I run, they definitely hurt a lot. Also, I was just feeling to see if there was a lump and the very edge of them is soft but the entire inside is like one big lump. Is that normal? I really need help with this one, it'd be great, ya know. I read on a website that to do a self check for breast cancer to feel the outsides too, and I seriously felt like I had popped something in there? I feel like I probably sound like an idiot or something, but thanks for your help at any rate.

Alison,

You don't sound like an idiot all. But you do sound like a young woman who needs to go see a doctor and get her breasts examined. Your breasts should not hurt when you run at your age (not at any age really- but a good sports bra should help for most women) A doctor can tell you if what you are feeling is ordinary or unusual and help you understand how to feel your breasts properly.

Don't be embarrassed. Your health is important. Your breasts are important. Learn to take care of them now and they will be your friends for life.

Thanks, I plan on visiting a doctor... but, do you have any idea about the lumps or anything? I mean, I don't know if it's not actually a lump or what? But yeah, are you supposed to be able to poke yourself and feel your rib? because I can't.. I have a doctors appointment next week. I hope it's nothing at all.

Not being able to feel your ribs is normal. Breast lumps are usually small - the size of peas or m&ms when you first discover them usually.

my mum and grandmum both had lumps removed. my mum told me that you have to feel for lumps b/c they don't hurt...so unless you feel for them you wouldn't notice them.

and I'm not so sure about the running thing susan. I was told by my doctor that was normal. shrugs

When I was 16 to about 19 my boobs would hurt when I got my period and also when the were growing. It would hurt when they moved in anyway...so running in gym, and going up and down stairs was a great pain for me in highschool :o

that's just my two cents

Breasts should not hurt all the time. And they might be uncomfortable when running, but not hurt.

So ok it must not be a lump then, do you think that I have hard breasts or something? Because it's not really a small lump or anything its just more like all the tissue is hard.

You probably just have young firm breasts. Enjoy them while they are.
