Why do I get swollen?

About ten years ago I had experienced swelling of my entire Vaginal area emphasising on the lips after sex. It happened over and over again and was quite uncomfortable to where I had to use Ice to help with the discomfort. It would take hours for it to clear up. Once again after about 9 years of not experiencing this, its back. But its not all the time. It is happening with a different partner than years ago. What causes this? Is it common? I've spoken to several girl friends and none of them have ever heard of it. I'm on the patch for birth control and I seem to have my period more than not which I've read can be a side effect until your body gets used to it. I just thought I would mention it in case it had any bearing on this. Also I've very recently had a pap and it was normal. I do get UTI's from time to time. I joke with my boyfriend and say that i'm allergic to him and laugh, but sometimes its so uncomfortable I want to cry. Any information would be great.

Two possibilities.

1. You are getting bruised and rubbed and burned because the friction is too much and you need to use lubrication.

2. You are allergic to something - maybe it is your laundry detergent -and when it gets rubbed deep into your skin it causes problems.

Best solution - use a GOOD lube.
