| - Hey Susan,
How are you? Hope all is well with you.
Ok ill just spit everything out...I'm 22 years old, I'm on birth control pills for about 4 months now (Yasmin) and recently something weird is really going on. My last cycle I had my period and it was fine except the last spotting days seem to take forever to finish and not to mention its not really spotting, theres still plenty...sorry i know thats gross. And what i dont understand is that well i thought that birth control was supposed to shorten the days right? mines taking a full week to be completely over. AND lately which this is very weird to me...when i pee it smells...and when i say it smells i mean its not normal, sometimes it smells bad and i dont know what thats all about, please help me out.
Thanks a lot. |

Good to hear from you again!!!!
Anytime pee smells that means you have an infection. (Or you are eating a ton of asparagus, cabbage, broccoli) So you need to go to the doctor and get your urine tested.
If your menstrual periods are like they are- I would also suggest you talk to your doctor about trying a different birth control pill. There are dozens of different ones out there and they are all slightly different. It sounds to me like this one is not working properly with your body. This is part of the reason it is recommended that you don't consider the birth control pill an accurate way to prevent pregnancy for 4 months. By now your body should have settled into this pil andit hasn't- so it may not be working.
There could also be a connection between the two- but I doubt it.
Time to see the doctor!

Really, i might have an infection?? craaap...i dont have insurance so im hoping there are some home remedies i could try before i go see a doctor...or is there some other symptom that could be related with this that way i could be sure its an infection? and if i were to see a doctor would i see an OB or my primary physician?
As for the pill... i once tried the Orthro tri cyclen lo and i hated it because of my mood swings and plus it didnt at all help with my cramps but the Yasmin is GREATT except for that one liiiitle problem, i dont have mood swings and i have no cramps...is there some other option?
Thanks greatly Susan. |

You could go to a free std clinic- they would take a urine sample. otherwise just a regular doctor will do. You could try drinking LOTS of water and cranberry juice for a few days to try to flush your system out and seee if that helps. (Lots means a gallon a day or more.)
There are dozens of kinds of birth control pills. Get the urine problem resolved - see if there is a connection. If not try another BC. | |
