What to say to step daughter

I am 21 years old. I just married a 35 year old woman. She is great. My problem is that her step daughter just move back from college and in my opinion she is a bad influence on her younger 14 year old daughter. They would go party together and she would dress inappropriatly. We want to have a talk with her but she is older than me. What should I do?

You are in a difficult situation. But IMO the older daughter should not be taking the younger daughter to any parties. She is underage for having sex, and for drinking, and for smoking and I cannot imagine that none of this is going on where they are going. BUT, if you have just gotten married it is your wife's responsibility to deal with this.

You are a stepfather and a new one at that - and you need to grow into that role. Being a stepparent is difficult under the best of circumstances, but you have a real challenge. I think you should abandon the idea of being a stepfather to your wife's older daughter - to her you will always be just her mom's husbands and not her father. She is grown and she is older than you - that makes you a stepfather to her in word only.

Be a supportive husband and focus your new parenting skills on the younger daughter.
