Younger girls and menstruation

My youngest girl is 11 1/2 and quite developed physically so we've been prepared with pads at home and in her bag now "just in case". With summer coming fast and her favorite passtime being swimming- I was curious if there is any harm for girls this young using tampons, I know they make a "slender" size now. We've been through the diagrams in my package and she knows her parts- so if she feels confident enough to give it a try when the time comes, is there any physical reason she shouldn't? Oh, and yes we're aware of the "Toxic Shock Syndrome" info.
The older girls weren't interested until a few years after they started, but since this one asked already I told her I'd ask you!
Thanks Susan.

No reason not to. She just has to change the tampon pad more frequently than when she thinks she needs too as her flow may be very slight. No tampon should be worn for more than 8 hours. Change it even if there is no blood on it

She should probably try it a few times with lubrication. The ones with the plastic applicators that are the smallest size are usually the easist.
