i jus had a quick question.....i have genital herpes an i heard about valtrex...how it will reduce my partner getting herpes?? i wanted to know wat u thought about it...bc when i did have my last outbreak.....the doctor never gave me valtrx....they gave me sumthing else...so i was jus wondering why they never gave me valtrex instead? is there risks or sumthing???

Valtrex is a brand name. Tylenol is a brand name. You can buy the brand name - or you can buy a generic brand or another name brand.

The doctor for whatever reason gave you a generic or other brand name.

Valtrex reduces the symptoms you have when you have an outbreak. They do not reduce how contageous you are.

Yes, you can only get Valtrex with a prescription.
