Have you seen packets of prepackaged food reporting that they contain 6 portions of that, or 3 portions of this, or whatever.
These portions have been quantified to satisfy your anoxeric teenage daughter, not your overweight obese, couch-potato son.
Please ask yourself what a cannibal from New Guinea would consider to be the volumes and quantity. and at what price food stuffs in a Fair Trade agreement?

Most of the managers/owners/directors of organisations in this country are just plain greedy. They are totally uninterested in providing a service.
The public lets them get away with it.

I suppose that "portions" is in the eye of the beholder and set within the profit margin of the marketeers.
There is NO DOUBT that portions - for the buck - are now smaller than they used to be and that means that we have to buy more packets to get the same actual portions that we used to.
The amount "on the plate" is still set by the person that is filling the plate and not by the amount that is in each package.
An example:
I just LOVE Chinese food and a new one has just opened in the next town to me that has very high quality food. The best thing about THIS outlet is that the portions are much bigger than the "other" Chinese takeaway for the price-per-portion. Maybe these portions too will drop in size once a level of regular clientele has been built up by this new entity ?

portion size, here at least, is set by what healthy not by what is going to fill you up. If you eat a healthy portion of food rather than eating til you're bloated you'd be better off. True the portions are smaller than they were 10 years ago and I DO get that but the understanding of what it takes to run your body has grown.

The one actuality that is typically American is the "All you can eat for ten dollars" idea as then people are tempted to get best VFM by eating much more than they should.
I DO agree that the habitual eating that we do in the wasteful and greedy West, ( not just in America ), is making us become unhealthy and obese.
I was reading about France yesterday where the French government are so worried about the levels of obesity there, ( one in three people are now reckoned to be obese or grossly obese in France ), that they are planning on raising the VAT levels there from 5.5% to 19.6% on foods that are too sweet, too salty, too fatty and "unnecessary for healthy eating".
I suppose if we are not able to control ourselves in what we eat it is the duty of the government to steer us in the right direction.
