Detlef, a Frenchman living in Moruel, near Marin, France, writes to say:

"I am one of the rare persons in France who speaks out on this issue [compulsory metrication]. I remind Frenchmen that the plumbers here used to use the 'pouce' and 'pied' and that the airline pilots do not speak of metres but 'pieds'. Bye bye, good luck, and much success in your battle"
