| Martin: "If I suspect that he is using false measures, I can complain to the local Trading Standards Office. They have set procedures for checking whether or not weighing systems are valid for trade. However their procedures are in metric only, so they will automatically declare the weights as being invalid."
The whole point is that the majority of people see no reason why lb/oz should not still be valid.
Christopher Booker's notebook: "Official figures indicate that 40,000 traders are still ignoring the law and selling in pounds and ounces. "
Doesn't this give you all an idea of just how much ordinary people object to this enforced metrication?
SteveH: "Can we please focus on the fact that market traders had to link arm-in-arm to protect their property being taken by the state?"
Most certainly we should focus upon this.
Did these officers from the council have a warrant to seize the equipment? Without a warrant then surely they are acting illegally themselves, and the traders have every right to use as much force as necessary to protect their property.
If there was no warrant, then what do they think gives them the right to simply walk off with somebody else's property?
Maybe they're just practicing for the day when British rights have been completely eradicated by the EU and minor little things such as probable cause and due process are considered trifling technicalities from the history books.
