I know this issue has been mentioned before but I would like to report to the BWMA that pop ups are coming up now asking me if I want to go to "The world's best adult website" and prompting me to download some software. Could the BWMA please tell me if there is anything they or I can do to stop these sort of disgusting pop ups coming up?
although I have not had adult related ones (and probably will now since I just used that 'word') I do get a rather nasty one about ringtones where it asks to install something and when you say 'no' it says an error message and you are forced into quickly shutting the window down before it asks again! NASTY!
I installed some software on my other PC (hijackthis) and unfortuantely it has broken all connections with the internet (I did not read the instructions)! I'm now in the process of reinstalling W2K!
When will microsoft ever make anything - erm - "good" that is hijack free?!?!.

I use pop-up stopper professional. I have almost no problems with popups on this site, consequently, now :)

Norton Internet Security 2003 seems to to quite a good job of blocking pop ups as well.

netscape has a pop-up stopper built in.

The reputable adverts are linked to Network54, the company that hosts this discussion forum.
Others are sent out to millions of computers by spam-type engines. The best response is to obtain virus and firewall protection eg Symantec-Norton.
This is their product page: http://www.symantec.com/product/

For unwanted adverts that are *not* pop-ups search out and download "spybot".
This one searches for "spyware" planted on your computer by the likes of kazzaa etc.
They are the nastiest things of all since the spy resides in your computer looking for opportunitues.
