On tne BBC website right now is a piece titled: "Measured Campaign by Two Traders".

It refers to two Cornish traders, Julian Harman (greengrocer and general stores) and John Dove (fishmonger).

Trading Standards have now written to the two shopkeepers warning them that they risk a further prosecution for carrying on selling in pounds and ounces, after having previously been given conditional discharges for weighing and selling in pounds and ounces in 2001.

Julain Harman is quoted as saying:

"We're just going to carry on, because at the end of the day, it wasn't voted for. It wasn't the people's choice, it was the government's".

John Dove is quoted as saying:

"People just pop in to the shop to offer support and tell us to keep going and not to give up".

The article concludes with a defiant statement from the two men, and a menacing Stalinist statement from Cornwall Trading Standards that other traders should report 'Imperial' traders 'to the authorities'.

If the cases do go to Court, there will be an outpouring of support from Eurosceptic Cornish folk and it will be interesting to see what penalty the Magistrates hand out this time. Whatever the fine is, their many supporters will pay it.

And the third time they are take to Court.

My reading of the report was that it was a typo: they got the words "people" and "traders" the wrong way round. Still menancing, though.

Weren't "people" used as informers during the 1930's /1940's ?
