Bra sizes.

May 14 2005 at 3:07 PM

Does anyone know whether bra sizes in europe (continental) use imperial notation as in the English speaking world?

Any comments are welcome except from Erin who will apply the "vinyl argument"

Anyone?

Why are you interested? Did you buy some for yourself in Hungary and got the wrong size?

Look under Kleidung in German, and then BH (for Brustenhalter)

http://kleidung.listings.ebay.de/Damenunterwaesche-bademoden_BH-Sets_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ45906QQsocmdZListingItemList

BH-Sets
Konfektionsgröße 65 (161)
Konfektionsgröße 70 (1044)
Konfektionsgröße 75 (2696)
Konfektionsgröße 80 (2156)
Konfektionsgröße 85 (1635)
Konfektionsgröße 90 (954)
Konfektionsgröße 95 (443)
Konfektionsgröße 100 (175)
Konfektionsgröße 105 (89)
Konfektionsgröße 110 (5)
Übergrößen (21)
Sondergrößen (115)

Thus the sizes are in centimetres (range 65 to 115)

Don't hurt your eyes when viewing the site....all of the pricing is in euros.

All Bras today are made using a metric pattern on a metric machine.

Just like vinyl records, I'd measure the so-called FFU version to see if they live up to their FFU size.

Nothing worse then having an FFU designation that isn't real.

Well, here is a subject on which I profess ABSOLUTELY no engineering knowledge, but as much interest as any (straight) man. Try this:
http://www.blushlingerie.co.uk/pages/size.html#Size

Go to "bra measuring made easy." It shows the relationship between two key measurements and English, French, and international bra sizing. The "number" doesn't seem to correspond to either of the measurements unless you assume a cup size.

Steve,

Why not visit http://www.kwtt.de/english/download/massmann_english.pdf#search='iso%20clothing%20sizes%2013402'

or

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/download/bodydim.pdf

Steve, before you start shooting off about these proposed standard being a load of "EU baloney", the actual work on them was done by the British Standards Institute.

Marks and Spencer label all their clothes, including bras, in both Imperial and metric - Imperial first for the moment.

For the record, when you translate 36-24-36 (so strange how duodecimal that is) into metric, it comes out at 91-61-91

Following the rigorous rules of rounding, you are correct.

However, hard metric hot chicks are rounded down to 90-60-90, sort of like metric horsepower.

This thread sure is going die fast! Steve was expecting everyone to tell him bras are measured in centimetres everywhere. Steve seems to think if he finds one small, remnant example of FFU usage, that means it is used everywhere. Do you realize how many shops Steve had to visit on a trip to Germany before finding one that had an inch tape measure and an attendant who could measure him in inches, just so he can say German trousers are sold in inches?

We can all be thankful that EN13402-1:2001, once implemented will put an end to that nonsense.

....measured in centimetres everywhere.

I meant to write......measured in inches everywhere.

Indeed I think you are correct Errin, they are in inches everywhere.

I was hoping someone would answer the question on the back of having gone there and found out. Pointing me to websites is pointless. I had trousers from Germany and they were labelled, grouped and sold in imperial - but anyone could have pointed me to a host of websites to "prove" only metric was used.

I'm looking for accuracy, folks, not bleedin' website links!

It's like visiting a tyre factory or knowing someone who works for a record making factory - the physical reality is always better than chucking "show me sites that say records are metric" into google and hoping with crossed fingers that a pro-metric site somewhere in the world will try to claim they're metric.

Or should I say something about london marathons too? Or tesco? or (etc) LOL!

-------

BTW - shouldn't Mallet boy be bashing himself to death? That idea of metricising clothes under a new voluntary standard is just a few months away from being a 2 yr old failure.

Or perhaps everyone except Error NoBrains wears 'industry strength blinkers'.

Hmm, everyone except ErrorNB eh? What could that mean?

:-D

-------

P.S. I guess I had to expect the above nonsense on a male-only website!

This is the 21-st century. You can make purchases from websites! Duh! Go to the German ones and make a purchase. They wouldn't advertise their sizes for purchase in centimetres if they were really sold in inches. You are so desperate to see FFU used other then in a few remnant places you fantasize it being used everywhere. Get with the real world! It's metric and no one has a problem with it.

Please forgive my brother above.

Like me we never venture outside our respective bedrooms - our "special interest" deliveries are only done via the internet. So much so that we don't even go to the stores for clothes anymore.

But at least I can PROVE that everyone everywhere uses feet and inches.

There are a whole host of websites that prove I am right.

Hey - when I thought of this thread subject I though of me and my brother each sitting in one of the cups.

Now what would THAT make us?

It just goes to show that if you never go out and if you believe that anything you retrieve as a result of a google search is true anything is possible.

:-D

Here's a tip for the hilarity brothers:-

Open front door.
Go out.
