First off: BWMA, if this post contravenes your board poicy, then accept my humble apologies beforehand. Delete the post or whatever your policy states.
I thought you guys might like to know that I have been asked to set up a forum, which I have done. It is supposed to be primarily about number bases, but there is a Weights and Measures section, and an offtopic general chat section. If anyone is interested in coming, it would be nice to see you there.
I just set the board up to-day, so don't worry if it is presently a little empty. If you notice any problems or whatever, please tell me.
Good luck converting everyone to dozens. Me, I'm sticking with decimal, because:
*That's how many fingers I have
*That's the kind of math I learned to do by hand in school
*That's the base my calculator uses for display (I suspect it of working in binary internally).
If I were going to be facile in any other base, it would probably be hex, but the truth is, my computer can work it out, I don't need to.

You have decimal fingers, do you? ;) I don't want to convert anybody to base 12. I think I favour base eight, myself. I was asked to set the forum up by the DSGB and DSA, and so have.
It is academic, not an exercise in conversion.
also, do you know it is more efficient to count the twelve segments of your fingers than it is your ten digits?

So what is the connection between number bases and metric? Is this just a futile attempt to get the world to switch to a different number base as a way to dislodge the metric system from general use?
Give it up! It will never fly.
