Liverpool Street Station Concourse Signs

On the western end of the concourse of Liverpool Street Station are large green-and-white signs on the ground, several square yards each, pointing to a selling point for ready-made meals at a distance of '50m'.

It would be difficult to permanently alter this to 'yards'.

What Paint to Use?

May 18 2002, 9:27 AM

Would someone kindly post on this bulletin board details of what precisley what kind of paint could be used to permanently cover over the offending words '50m' on the Liverpool St. Station concourse (and perhaps replace them with, say, the words '60 yds'. ARM will then consider if direct action may be appropriate

Well if I go to that station and find that you have converted it to 60 yds that would annoy the hell out of me just the same.

So where does that leave the argument about liberty and freedom to choose?

"Curse of the metre"

A fresh report from an ARM spotter only today reveals that the business in question which used a sign '50m' on Liverpool Street Station to point to their kiosk has suddenly closed and their sign has now been completely eradicated, presumably by Station staff

if a shop was within its rights to use a metric sign, would you bully it into changing?

The only bullying I have seen is by the state, not private individuals!

Regardless, if a company uses metric signs then you simple email them asking why and then vote with your feet. One person can only make a small dent in their profits but thats good enough.

The day Tesco decided to use imperial again the number of shoppers went sharply up, along with their share price. The other supermarkets lost out. No "bullying" was done - unless you're gonna hold a gun to my head and tell me to "shop at sainsburys" !! (I jest).

Anyway, I'm off to tesco now for a pound of bananas!
