| The Council of ARM would like to invite all pro-British weights and measures campaigners to our first Annual Social at Stratford-on-Avon - Saturday 22 June. Meet Shakespeare Hotel, Chapel Street, between 12noon and 2pm (a variety of lunches available from a round of sandwiches to a 3-course meal). This will celebrate one year since our initial and successful raid on 18 illegal metric signs erected by Northampton Borough Council.
A demetrication exercise involving a few prominent local signs is planned for the afternoon. After tea, a more extensive demetrication exercise for serious activists is planned for the evening, in a nearby Midlands town
Please ring me - Polly - on 01480 435837 for further details |

The following sequence of events has taken place in relation to four large notices giving the distances to emergency telephones along the south bank of the River Avon:
June - Metric signs overpainted and lettering in yards affixed by ARM supporters
July - Council remove Imperial lettering and overlabel with a brand new yellow-and-black label in metres only
August - Another visit by ARM supporters who peeled off the new metric-only labels and used white paint and black card to re-label in yards
September - Council relent and label their sign again with a yellow-and-black notice - this time with yards in large letters and with metres in small writing in brackets underneath.
A hard-won victory, just to get them to comply witrh te law.
P.S. Letters were sent by ARM to Stratford-on-Avon Council about this matter but we did not have the courtesy of a reply
