To deter 'Travellers' from camping in the car-park at the Avon Heath Country Park in East Dorset, a low-height barrier has been erected across the entrance. This barrier is marked as being "2 metres max." I have reminded East Dorset District Council of TSRGD 2002, but they say that Dorset CC are responsible. I have now received a conciliatory letter from the Countryside and Access Manager at Dorset CC apologising for the error and assuring me that the sign will be corrected as soon as possible. Another small success to mark up.
You do realise don't you that the real battle in your campaign isn't the odd metric sign that might be erected in breach of current regulations.
It's preventing the regulations themselves being changed.

I suggest Mt H you have a quiet word with your idol Mr B, who seems to think slightly different.

Mr B is more into conspiracy theories than me.

You want me to list out disagreements I've had with someone whose "closer to my side"?
Get real.
Others will know my point of view (TB more than others!)

Why did those two words immediately make me think of the time when the EU illegalised "duty-free" in ewrop.

"Duty free" was a rip-off anyway. The gullible British tourist often paid more for his booze in the duty-frees than they did in Calais.

This one didn't

Which supermarket did you use in Calais - Aucham - or did you go to Sainsburys (who are next door to Aucham).

I always found you got the best bargains at the local supermarkets wherever you were holidaying instead of at the ferryport hypermarkets.
Was concerned to once find a bottle purporting to be recent produce from a local (Scots) distillery that has been closed for 20 years though.....
If you are in Brittany, never, never, never buy Breton Whisky. It makes Irish or Welsh Whisky taste good!

Oi - less of that.
My dad's getting the new Welsh whisky at my Wedding (he doesn't know so don't let on...)
I used to use "mamouth", martin - they accepts brit money there too!
Carly: No they don't.
Berenger - what do you think of "blue label" whisky

Sorry, you've lost me....
Is that Diageo's latest attempt to use their expression "pure malt" (or as it should be called "vatted malt")
I remember seeing something recently about them planning to use "pure malt" for one of the Johnny Walker brands.....

I usually use a VISA card - they give a better exchange rate.

Ahhhh!
Could it be that you are one of those who believe that JW Blue Label is a myth?

Steve
I have seen JW blue label so it definitely does exist.
The best whiskies are made further west than Kilmarnock though.
I thought you were referring to the "pure malt" controversy. Turns out JW are planning on launching "Green Label" as a "pure malt". Hope that goes the same way as their plans to deceive Cardhu drinkers.
Talking of whisky, I will get down to the post office tomorrow......

"Cardhu drinkers."
Is that pronounced the welsh way - ie "cardee"
"Talking of whisky, I will get down to the post office tomorrow......"
[grin]
BTW - that Blue label stuff was being sold at 30 quid a bottle at the Diageo staff shop a cpl of yrs back.
P.S. My contract came to an end at diageo last friday - ANYONE NEED A DBA?
Not until November 7th though - I've got a wedding and a honeymoon to get through!!!
P.S. While I'm gone I suggest everyone install the "fool-ignorer v3.1" software!!!

SteveH can't pronounce "The Cardhu"
The Welsh language can't cope with the new
The Scots spell it "Cardow"
I'm sure you'll say "how?"
Just get on with on saying "I do"
Best wishes

"The Scots spell it "Cardow""
I assume you mean "pronounce" there, not "spell".
Had a few cardee have we? (that could feasibly be the plural)

The village name was Anglicised to "Cardow", but it's still pronounced "doo"
A similar example is Cairndow, also pronounced "doo"
Whne the Ordinance Survey did their original survey of Scotland, they wrote down placenames based on what they thought the locals were saying.
Tarranty Fair is held just outside Brechin every year, but the OS misheard the village name as "Trinity", and that is what appears on the maps & streetsigns. Locals still pronounce it "Tarranty" though

"Tarranty"
Adjective, something that is highly irritating but could net you a million pounds.
Example of a sentence that is tarranty: "Final answer?" or "But we don't want to give you that"

Steve
I must have been subconciously thinking about golf and "I don't want to give you that" as I mis-spelled "Tarranty"
It should be spelt as in the 1st hole at Brechin golf course "Taranty Market" It is 429yds long from the back tee.
