Below is a letter to Marks and Spencer from a BWMA supporter and their reply:

Dear Sir,
I am writing to let you know that I am grateful that the labelling of much of your food produce is in pounds and ounces, thank you. It does gives you a distinct advantage over others, such as Tescos, who can't be bothered to do this.

I am very much aware that many manufacturers are using the confusing metric measurements to hide the shrinkage in sizes of goods, typically changing cans from 8oz to 220g, which is only 7.7oz - while the price
remains the same!

I will not buy products that are sold in metric-only units, where alternative products exist marked in UK measures. I would ask you to extend the marking of goods in ounces and pounds to all of the food items you sell, as I did notice that there are in fact some products on which you are not yet doing so.
Yours faithfully, etc

Marks & Spencer reply:

Thank you for contacting us. Firstly, I would like to apologise for the unacceptable delay in replying to you.

It was kind of you to let us know that you are grateful for the labelling of our produce is in pounds and ounces and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, as they can help us to improve the service we offer our customers. We always listen closely to our customers' views and I will discuss them with the appropriate area of our business to see what we can do.

Thanks again for giving us your comments, and I hope that you will continue to enjoy shopping in our stores.
