Hi J.... i saw your request for info re: setting up inventory in restaurants. You should check out my web site:

www.rrgconsulting.com
(Restaurant Resource Group)

I just completed a book titled The Restaurant Operators Complete Guide to QuickBooks 2002. I include a whole chapter devoted to setting up inventory accounts and making end of month adjustments to get an accurate food cost by category (e.g. food cost, wine cost, etc).

I also sell customizable excel spreadsheets that make it easy to take an end of month inventory without having to calculate all the prices and extensions.

Check it out and give me a call if you want to chat...

Does this information work with earlier versions of Quickbooks because there are many features in the 2001 version that we use that are not in the 2002 version so we did not upgrade.

Both the QuickBooks 2002 Guide for Restaurant Operators and Excel spreadsheets work equally well with QB 2001. You can actually download the "Making Inventory Adjustments" Chapter of my book free by subscribing to the newsletter at www.rrgconsulting.com
