Has anyone used QuickBooks for a dealership and if so, do you have any secrets for inventory? My client is not happy with QuickBooks because they never have a repeat inventory item (serial number). Is there any recommendation or another inventory interface that you would recommend? They do not want to have a zillion items and I do not know how to get around this since they don't want to just make them inactive.
We use Quick Books for our dealership. The owner here does not like to see the zeros so I can make them inactive. I use the last six numbers of the VIN # so keep an accurate inventory. At first use we had a lot of trouble making them inactive and our accountant said to leave the zeros. But this is cumbersome. We use Manheim Auto Tracker software and can get a list for inventory control at the end of month and a yearly report.
DO YOU ENTER A SALES RECEIPT WHEN YOU SELL A VEHICLE? I AM COMPLETELY NEW TO THIS WHOLE SYSTEM. I WANT TO KEEP TRACK OF SALES AND SALES TAX COLLECTED, ETC., BUT WHAT IS THE EASIEST WAY? DO YOU DO SOME SORT OF SALES RECEIPT AND THEN DO YOU TIE IT INTO THE INVENTORY?

Is this a car dealership. We enter inventory when purchased by last six numbers of the vin. We use Manheim Auto Trader and keep inventory there also. It is not an interface - when the car is sold we make it inactive against the accountant's advice but the list become lengthy and the owner wants to see active inventory. Hope this helps
