Can't switch to single user mode

I am running Quickbooks 2001 multi-user edition on 3 machines here in my office, each on a Windows 98 PC, and the data file is on the Windows NT 4 company server.

I cannot switch to single-user mode on any of the machines. I log in as Admin and it says I am the only one logged on, yet when I try to switch to single-user, it says someone else is accessing the file and they have to close the company file before I can switch.

I've done Close File/Company Logoff on each machine, checked the Task Manager to make sure no Quickbooks-related files were open, and even went as far as to uninstall and reinstall Quickbooks on each machine, but so far nothing has worked.

Please can someone help me?

has the server been rebooted? You might also try moving the file to one of the workstations and open it in single user mode there. Then move it back.

Still no Luck

I tried rebooting the server but still no luck.

I copied the file to the local hard drive and when I go to open it in single user mode it says "You cannot open this in single user mode because the following user(s) are using the file: "

And there are no users.

restore a backup that works or seek data recovery
