Wait -- specifically, I need someone's spreadsheet that they have actually used to use as a template to import my excel transactions into Quickbooks.

You can't import transactions from an xls file. With an xls file you can import 4 list types (customer, vendor, item and one other).

You can use Excel to create transactions in the IIF format. This Excel workbook (with iif formatted transactions in it) will need to be saved as a text file (tab delimited or csv) before you can import it.

See QB help for IIF and see
http://www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qbw2001/117503.html for sample files.
