My company uses a network server that we access company files from, such as QBW files for our Quickbooks 2004 Professional. All of the computers in our office used Windows 98 but I have recently upgraded a couple of computers to Windows 2K upon my boss' request. The problem I am encountering with this is when a user on Windows 98 computer has a Quickbooks data file open, another user on a Windows 2K machine cannot access the data file and an error window shows up saying "___.QBW is not a Quickbooks data file or it is damaged." However, if everyone using a Windows 98 machine logs off Quickbooks, those using Windows 2000 can access the file and open it. Have anyone else encountered a problem like this? If so, do you know if every computer can access Quickbooks data files as long as they're all using the same operating systems? Thank you for reading.
Hey, my company is having the same problem. You mentioned turning of caching, but where did you do it? In QuickBooks? We use Novell Client for Windows XP, and it also has an option for caching, is that what should be turned off?
Right click on the red N in the lower right hand corner and go to properties. Click on the Advanced settings tab and you will see file caching. Change it to off.
