Could have been paid for by The Doc or could have been obtained as a form of loan off someone else, the Doc would not reveal his source.
Nobody in the right mind would currently pump any money into the club, be it a wealthy supporter or an investor. If I won £10 million on the lottery, I would have serious doubts about pumping money into the club.
Its true, without the Doc their would be no club.
You have to ask why he pits this money in?
He personally told me he was not a football fan and was not a Runcorn supporter, he only became interested after being invited onto the board and was basically forced to take over as chairman, a job he didnt want.
OK he might do it for the love of the game, but at the end of the day, he is a clever businessman. There is no money to be made, no assets to sell, one can only assume that by putting money into a football club, it helps with his yearly tax bill in some form.
If The Doc was to drop dead tomorrow, what would happen? - Maybe thats one reason why the club should reform again, do it now while there is still an investor out there. The £60,000 annual rent at Widnes would go a long way to starting off a new club.
There have been potential investors over the last few years, but for one reason or the other, they have been put off by The Doc or have not liked him enough to work alongside him.
One thing you get from the Chairman is little or no information. Since the sale of Canal Street, he has only once spoken to the local paper and that was with reagards to a supporters group formed to bring in investment.
Its no wonder rumours surface if information is never given. |
