Remember todays cheap kid is tomorrows full price adult!
Many a young supporter was taken to Canal Street, lifted over the turnstyle and allowed to run around the ground playing with other kids, kicking a ball at the bottom end of the ground etc.
Fathers took their children as they could watch the match and score a few brownie points with the Mrs! Often calling in the social club for a quick pint afterwards.
Wincham Park does not allow for the matchgoing experience that Canal Stret offered.
I understand both views given here. Its a supporters run club and the money is needed to keep the club going. There is no indication to suggest what level of attendance junior admission will generate. Whilst a parent wth 2 kids is then faced with a £9 trip to the match (Not to mention the demand for food that a child screams for!!!).
One way of creating interest, could be to offer a Kids for a Quid voucher in the local paper, Weekly News and World and also send some out to youth clubs, scouts, brownies, schools, junior football teams etc.
This way, the child would be made aware of the fixture, think they are getting a special deal and be more likely to attend.
Wouldnt it be better to have 10 kids paying £1 than 5 kids paying £2?
Runcorn FC has traditionally let itself down on the marketing of itself and ability to attract young fans.
Once they get into that match going habbit, schemes such as Young Linnets can keep them interested. | |
