| Whilst I feel sorry for the genuine Widnes fans I cannot help but feel that justice has been done.
If it wasn't for their financial irregularities and falling into administration I am sure they would of been a shoe in.
However there are still many businesses and sponsors not to mention the Council who were left high and dry and out of pocket after the Vikings death and re-birth.
I have put questions into the Council regarding the £200,000 that Widnes Vikings owe them, they do claim to be getting the money back, but I imagine it to be interest free and over a long period, with todays announcement the Council should demand this money back with immediate effect, so they can fund other projects which may or may not include us.
It is not right in any walk of life or sport to just walk away from your obligations and debts, change your owner, company name and re-start whilst other people go under or struggle and have no hope of getting their money back.I am sure that if Widnes prove that they are financially stable for the next 3 years they will get a licence in 2012.
However their crowds will drop even further after this announcment, 3000 people in a 14,000 seater stadium is ridiculous, they are at best mid table in NL1 and could struggle to make an impact in that division with Halifax, Featherstone, etc... getting stronger and stronger, they would need strengthening beyond belief to compete in Superleague, I can see O'Connor getting frustrated and leaving the club despite his war cry, its sad but that is reality, they don't learn and neither does it appear do the council.
The Council bailed them out when they were staring at bankruptcy before after the silly wages they put Offiah and Davis on, they bailed them out again with the New Stadium, then helped them financially in the push to secure a Superleague Licence.
I had been saying for months that the Crusaders & The Reds would get in, only our shortsighted and dim Councillers would continue to back a third horse in a two horse race. | |
