What the club do to develop after returning to Runcorn is not easy
to predict nor to speculate about. All the council has done so far is to
agree to get a ground sorted out that can be used by the next season.
The rest, like the ATP looks to be something the club has to develop
afterwards. It certaintly isn't going to be by the start of the next
season is it ?
As for posts by Tufty, he suggests in one thread the arrangements can't
be trusted and then in another what the club and council should be doing
next or as part of the development. Which is it ? If the council have
done wrong in the past in the eyes of supporters why carry that on ?
I will accept that their support is bringing the club home from what
has been said. If that is true, that'll do me for a fresh start. No-one
in the council is going to welcome or be fooled by fresh demand after fresh
demand, to prove they have a different attitude to that previously.
Why stop at the suggestion of a social club ? Why not start on what size of
plasma tv and brands of ale to sell in it ? The who is going to run it and what
they should be paid ? I think I'd settle for details of the facilities the
club need to be approved by the FA in the spring first.
If Tufty is really supportive he should consider cutting the council some slack,
after all, if he's right, the club won't come home or the council will be found
out by charging some ridiculous rent.
As for the number of sunday league clubs in Runcorn, (or elsewhere in the two towns)
who actually plays in sunday league if they can play in the saturday league ?
Generally it's a number of factors, such as season ticket holders avoiding
saturday clashes for the premiership club they support, dissatisfaction or
inability to play in the saturday league or they just like thier friday night's out.
There are others I could list.
A real problem in Runcorn which hasn't been helped by the absence of Runcorn FC
is the mass of junior teams with few places to go to or no encouragement to do so.
Many just end up leaving football and getting pis..d instead of carrying on to a
local club. That's the fault of a number of organisations. The return of a club
which can only help provide further encouragement for local amatuer and non-league
footie, will not change things overnight, but it certainly will help.
Likewise, building a bigger supporters base won't happen overnight either, it will
take years.
