The doc must of been bladdered when he agreed to that one. I hope that Lighyts other targets are of similar quality.

The Doc - Its all pretence
|June 8 2004, 7:17 PM |
All this pretence about having no money, you only have to look at the signing on fee and wages he is paying on this signing.
Also, the wages paid to Watson.
You only have to look at the signing on fee and wages he is paying on this signing.
Which are what? Do you know something that we dont?
Also, the wages paid to Watson.
Which was what? Do you know this as well?
It amazes me that a club makes a great signing such as this and all people do is knock it! If you know that there was a great big signing on fee and that he is on great wages, then why dont you do us all a favour and disclose it instead of just saying he is?
All I heard was that he was sick of travelling to Swansea which was why he asked to leave, and that he has now landed a job outside of football which he prefers to take and play part time football with us. Money is not the issue here... unless you know otherwise.
Does it matter?

Does the wage matter?
Does the signing on fee matter?
Better than spending a £4,000 transfer fee on some useless peice of shite, that usually happens.
This signing may attract a better class of player to the club.
Not all players are motivated by money, unlike a few who would rather pack their bags and head to Southport for a few exra pounds per week.
So what if he has got a decent wage, he will probably put more effort and pride into wearing the shirt than a lot of other players who have got decent money off the club over the years.

Suppose the wage doesnt matter in the slightest. Its just the same old tired presumption that he is on loads, when nobody actually knows.
Must say though I agree that this signing may attract a better class of player to the club. When was the last time we signed a player from a league club? A great signing I think who can actually put numbers on the gate.
Here's to more good players coming in!
Maybe , but

"We offered him our top wage, but there's nothing we can do about it if another club tops that." - Halifax
How many other decent players could this wage have covered?

You are quite categorically wrong Dave.
Kieron had two options with what to do with his career...
Stay in the full time game with Halifax and earn a decent but not fantastic wage for two more seasons (he's 31 in December).
Take up a job offer with the police force, which is pretty much a take it or leave it option (ie you can't pick and choose when it suits you to join), and play part time football.
Now, if you had a wife and two children which option would you take Dave ? Bearing in mind you have already had fourteen years as a professional footballer ?
Two seasons more or the chance of a permanent job and decent career for your family for the rest of your days ?
That's why Halifax got turned down. Runcorn's offer was much less than theirs.
Don't take everything you read at face value !
It would be interesting to read what you've got to say.
Don't forget to vote !

You can still vote up until 10pm on Thursday.
Libraries, info centre, but don't bother posting it.
Send a message to the council ?

It's not just a few quid though is it Tufty? Many of the players that came to Southport are on a great deal more than they were previously.
