Is this for real? If so, we have no future

Was this brochure knocked up in a few minutes coach trip back from Witton?
If your going to make such an important document and brochure, then lets at least apply a bit of thought and creativity.

The pic of Canal Street on the front, basically shows Canal Street as a dump and is not inspiring, it looks like that is what the plan is for.

To much emphasis on getting money into the club, rather than what the club could do for you and work with you as a business.

£100 for a brick is a joke, you would sell 3 times as many at £50 and make more of a profit. No description of what these bricks constitute. Why not give the wall/pathway etc a fancy name?

The "Board of honour" in the ground, with peoples names on it, is almost laughable.

Information should be on there about where the club has come from, what Runcorn FC achieved for the town in the past.
The brochure offers less than what Runcorn Town currently offer at a price much higher.

90 years of continous top flight non-league football in the town? Have you forgotten the last 7 years?

Seriously, I would scrap that brochure and put something together that is professional, sells the club to the people and shows an ambition and superioirty that will attract backers.
Currently it looks like a 12 year olds school project, done over an evenings TV and gameboy playing and rapidly put together before bed time.

A few suggestions

March 2 2008, 11:03 PM

I have to agree, the leaflet is very poorly put together and very amateurish.
A more professional approach is needed and that necessarily does not mean spending anymore money.
It look like it has been put together by a child.

The club should give serious consideration to the image they want to portray before releasing this leaflet.
Remember, this is to sell the future of Runcorn Linnets FC and the Future of football in Runcorn, not to sell a fridge magnet or tomobola.
Perhaps a new leaflet could be put togetehr in conjunction with on of the business Marketing courses at Halton College?

Do you want the people of Runcorn and the Business's of Runcron to "Buy in" to this project, or just the same few fans giving a few pence here and there?
Encourage people to give the money to the cause, rather than the simple begging bowl approach that this current leaflet portrays.
Make the leaflet attractive, make people want to become involved, not simply handing over money, as they can do to any charity. The Runcorn FC beg beg and more beg approach should not be used, as this current leaflet does.

Whats needed -
1 - A punchy strap-line.
Something along the lines of "Football's Coming Home", is a lot more appealing than the boring "Runcorn Linnets New Stadium Project". make people sit up and notice straight away.

2 - History and Tradition.
Sell the clubs past and its future.
Mention that the club was born out of Runcorn Football Club, one of non-league footballs most pinacle names. Paint its history and the benefits it brought to the town.
Winning the alliance, 3 Wembley appearances in the FA Trophy Final, 5 Cheshire Senior Cup wins on the run. Consistently in the proper stages of the FA cup, puting the towns name on the global map.
Most people reading these leaflets wont know the history and how big the club used to be.

3 - The aims of the club.
To get Runcorn playing at the top level of non-league football once more.

4 - The benefits of the new stadium.
Not just a base for the football club, but a community facility offering sporting facilities, social and community centre, creating local jobs.
To incoporate an expansion of the club into both Junior levels and Womens football within Runcorn.

5 - The Stadium.
Dont just say Unibond Prem standard. State, "Intitailly built to Unibond Prem standard, in order to achieve the short term playing aims of the team, we hope to build a stadium that can be adapated to the teams aim rapid progression" (This shows the ambition) Mention the number of seats, covered terraces and then state about initial design.
Have the plans for the stadium on public show in the Halton lea library and the Brindley. Create interest.

Now to the sell.
Come up with some imagination.
A decorative Ground Funder Board is hardly an encouragement to part with £500.

Commemorative brick or paver? How boring.
Give it some marketing sell. The price is also too expensive how about.
"See your name on the Linnets Legends walkway. A Unique opportunity for fans to see their name engraved onto a brick paver and sat alongside the names of the Linnets top 100 ever legends. This Legends walkway will lead to the stadiums entrance and will be a lasting tribute to both the Linnets legends and You"
Legends can have their name in Gold writing. th official site can run a poll to determine top 100 legends. Also, as stated in other post, set price at £50

Ditch the Roll of honour, its derogatory to the initial roll of honour set up to get the club up and running.

Have some info on The Tote, stating that money is given direct to the ground fund and that supporters have the chance to win weekly. (Give people something back for their money and let them see this).

State what the £250,000 needed will get. State that money will also come from Football Trust etc, to show that other organisations support this.

So come on, show people that Runcorn FC has a future in Runcorn, think about how shite the current leaflet is and look to achieve your aims.

PS - On posters such as the Golf Event, dont state hat Runcorn Linnets FC was born out of Runcorn FC Halton. State that it was born out of Runcorn FC. People didnt like the Halton part and the FC halton was not evident when the team was in Runcorn.

Some good points there. It is important that this brochure is professional and shows he ambition of the club.

I feel that the club should be working more closely with Halton College.
I am sure they have various departments from Business to Graphic Design that could adapt this as part of their project work.
The club should utilise the college more.
Offer work experience for people in secretarial roles, marketing roles, PR and sporting roles.
When the social club is built, the college's catering course could be used to provide the food. The college students could operate the bar and social club and also manage any pitches that are being hired out in the evenings.

The club should also use its brochure to publicise its links with Beechwood Juniors, showing it is already involved in community groups.

What you have to remember

March 3 2008, 5:17 PM

Is that local businesses get hammered from Junior football teams, schools, scouts/guides and local charities asking them to invest.
What you have to offer them, is a return on their investment. Why is £500 to Runcorn Linnets Football Club a better use of funds than £500 to fund a complete junior team, for which they get their name on a shirt and local coverage in the papers.
The bigger the firm (ICI, Bass, Schreiber etc) all get more requests from nationawide charities and groups.
Constantly being approached from money/sponsorship is not going to attract investors.

Having seen the majority of the current board in action and this plan to attract £250,000, I cannot see a return to Runcorn within the next 10 years.
All these firms and investors were approached when the football club needed saving at Canal Street and nobody came forward. The town of Runcorn and Runcorn Football Club have moved on a lot since then.
The last game at Canal Street attracted less than 250 supporters. The biggest gate at Witton has only been 300 supporters for a local derby, where kids went free.

Runcorn Town have launched the same plan in order to gain their floodlights, its a competetive market and the marketing needs to be good.
The thought and effort put into this to date has been 3rd rate. More thought is needed in order to succeed.

Good post Tufty and it seems the board have taken note on a few of your points and put them into practise on the Official Site in the new press release.

i.e bricks now £50 etc...

"A fine display of Commemorative Bricks or Pavers will be on show at the new ground for all to see ! " - still needs adapting to give some form of structure, as the legends Pathway idea shows.
A fine display of Bricks and Pavers can be found in B&Q or Webbs!!!

This thread is full of suggestions. You get more done by posting it here in public for the world to see, than turning up at a meeting, that is full of people so far up their own arses they dont see the light.

Changes have already been made, so its shown that they are listend to and noted.
