| - Seems that when the payout is decent, they get about 500 entries per week. When the payout is low, this falls to about 100 entries.
I remember the days when the Linkline paid out £1,000 every week and £100 every day and still managed to make the club a profit.
This is what they need to aim at.
Its a case of signing people up on doorsteps, rather than signing them up in pubs and workplaces, using agents who get a commision.
The days of Big Fat Robbo handing over those extra large cheques are long gone. (Even Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber won the £1,000. What ever happened to those 2 mad twins?) |

Great idea! Are you willing to go selling the tickets door to door?
Hmmmmmmmm Maybe Not! |

| is the tote a success ? | March 7 2008, 7:39 PM |
Well swing a lantern and pull up a sand bag "I remember when..."!So we are not making as much money from the tote as the linkline(yet) and some weeks only 100 entries are recieved but it is still more than if Glyn wasnt out there doing what he does. Also we fans of RLFC have to be carefull of saying we are not the conference club of the past and then posting compering us to them glory days of the past as it makes the people doing this sound confused and there arguments ill thought out.
But most importantly any mention of our tote is a bonus because you never know it may lead to another sale and enough sales lead to £1000 cheques.

| this weeks tote | March 8 2008, 10:33 PM |
Well what a move in the right direction this weeks tote was, from some of us saying the first week after a jackpot only sells about 100 tickets, we have 360 players. Who knows we may not be as far from a £1000 prize every week as we thought. We should also thank everyone involved in this from Glyn to to people who provide the locations around the town who make this possible and finally yourself ,uncle alf,who if you had not mentioned the tote earlier it would have slipped by us all as to how sucessfull this last week has been. |

The national lottery, the proliferation of on line betting sites, a much bigger fan base. All resons why the old fundraiser outstrips the new one.
It's steady modest income stream to budget on. |

When the Linnets linkline was at its height, it was before the likes of the National lottery and all the games that now has.
The linkline could afford to pay out £1,000 a week, £100 a day and still pay the wage of a member of staff to administrate it.
The lottery killed the linkline, what with people playing as part of syndicate in work etc.
The lottery is a big competitor with the Tote, why spend £1 on the tote to win £150, when you can spend £1 on the lottery and win millions?
Its all down to how people want to make a donation to the club and by giving £1 to the tote, your actually getting somethig back for your donation.
at one point, the club used to have a stall selloing the "Goal Liner" tickets in the market, so we cant reflect on what worked in the past.
The key to the tote is getting more people to play, getting it in more workplaces and pubs. Have they tried selling it in local betting shops?
The more who play, the bigger the prize, the bigger the prize, the more attraction to people to play.
In Pavillions they sell a weekly draw based on predicting 3 football scores, that works very well for them.

A sympathetic independent bookmaker may let you put the tote in. If somebody comes in to play the tote they may have a bet. Not sure any of the big ones would be too keen. We can ask I suppose.... | |
