Hello 114 Adults,

We will be having a short Camp Melakwa meeting this Thursday 7-26 at 6:15 PM at the Church. Mark still needs some help in getting enough cooking equipment for our 20+ Scouts that our Troop adults will be cooking for at camp. We are now down to only 1 more weekend to gather what our Troop still needs for an entire outback week of rough camping. This meeting is only for our Troop Adults that may be able to help us out and should only take 30 - 40 min. to pick up the loose ends that we are in need of.

If you have or know where to get equipment needed to cook for a large group please contact Mark at msmalley@ramcell.net if you can't attend the meeting. You might be able to save our Troop from buying equipment that we would only use once a year or so.

Mark has passed on to me that Cindy has done a great job in purchasing ALL of the food our Scouts will need for a week at camp. This is also not an easy task. The cost per boy is $60.00. Cindy has done a fine job while also keeping the cost down to apx. $10.00 per day for every Scout to have 3 square meals, snacks and the proper liquids. Scouts should try to get their $60.00 Food Payment to Diana as soon as they can.

I am also trying to get the word out that there is no phone communication at Melakwa!! We have been told that cell phones can't get out. Only for emergencies, calls can be relayed through our Council's phone number and then relayed to Melakwa. Let me know if you want more information about contacting your Scout at camp. If you plan to visit your Scout at camp you may want to let your Scout and Scoutmasters know when you will arrive so your Scout can greet you to show you the way to our camp. There will be helpful camp guides to tell you how to get to our camp if you don't know your arrival time. It just may take you a little longer to find your way.

Again if you think you may be of some help in gathering cooking equipment for large groups please attend our short meeting.

I want to thank the Parents that have always done way more that you should have to do. Had one of our Scouting Leaders put what you do in a very neat way to me... The busiest people are the people that always get the job done when they are called on. You keep 114 going!!

****** IF YOUR SCOUT HAS NOT TURNED IN HIS PHYSICAL FORM TO MARK PLEASE DO SO A.S.A.P. AS MELAKWA WILL NOT ALLOW ANY SCOUT TO ENTER CAMP WITHOUT IT!! ******

HAPPY TRAILS - Ed

Camp Cooking Equipment

July 25 2001, 8:01 PM

Mark - I remembered Tim Blanchard has a friend that has a commercial type gas BBQ grill built on a trailer to be pulled by a truck. It has a sink, water storage, counter tops, etc. He was going to let our troop use it a year ago. Chrystal called Tim and Tim will contact him and try to get back to us before the meeting tomorrow. I talked to a SM that has been to Melakwa and he thinks we can drive it into Many Lakes. He was sure we could at least get close enough so the boys could push it into camp from the road.

I picked up two 5 gallon water coolers today if we still need them. I have also located a 3 ft. x 3 ft. griddle. It's heavy... apx. 40+ lbs. and has been stored outside for awhile. Before I load it up I thought you might want to take a look at it. If you think we could use it I can meet you at Wildlife Safari anytime Thur. AM or anytime Fri. to take a look at it. Just give me a call on my cell (643-8987) and I should be able to get there in 30 min. or so. HAPPY TRAILS - Ed
