I don't think the scope of this idea has been adequately assessed by the forum thus far. While many online news outlets currently allow reader comments, those 0day comment forums usually devolve into silly flame sessions. "A point of view can be a dangerous luxury when substituted for insight and understanding." -M.McLuhan. Amazoned news (with a pinch of eBay) could allow for commentary to be filtered by quality: picture a commenter rating system similar to eBay seller ratings.
The opportunity to explore the issues (the Data) section is, however, the key element (and the most exposed to compromise) in my opinion. If it opens a window on true source materials for the discussion in question and doesn't merely direct the ignorant to polemics then easy access to insight and understanding are available for everyone: true democratization of information rather than what we have now with standard news item commentaries (platforms for demagogues and the uninformed).
The more I think about this news-delivery vehicle, the more I am convinced that it is one of those ultimately simple (why didn't I think of that?) but profoundly disruptive ideas that will fundamentally change how we get information. |
