I hope you found some food for thought in Ellen's E&P speech.

Do you think news sites should be become more like ecommerce sites...or less? Where do you spend more time, Amazon.com or Washingtonpost.com?

Tell us what you think about our "Amazoned" news pages.

Let's talk.

A completely refreshing way to look at traditional newspaper content in a completely different way.

It would certainly challenge traditional newspaper editors to think differently.

Although the concept of packaging this information is very familiar to web surfers, it's a radical departure for someone looking for local news in a traditional sense. But as long as the search functionality is sound, finding information on my local school board meeting could just be a few clicks away.

The idea that users would accumulate points for using the site is very interesting, especially if you apply it to how people read their newspapers. Knowing that traditional newspaper readers scan a ton of information from page to page could earn the news organization a lot of money if the same habits were to translate to the web.

Precise targeting of the user's content would have to be a dream for advertisers as well. They'd be able to pinpoint their messages to users in a far more efficient way than current day banners and tiles could ever offer.
