Please see http://www.streettactics.co.uk/main.html where it can be proved that the introduction of speed cameras throughout the county of Nottinghamshire UK is currently SAVING 20 LIVES EVERY YEAR. With the introduction of the tram next year and a workplace parking levy as well as restrictions on car movements within the city we shall soon see a vast increase in the quality of life within the city.

Re: Speed cameras - a success? I dont think so!!!

Speed Camera Policy Responsible For 5500 Deaths" says the ABD.

A rigorous analysis of Government-published figures undertaken by the Association of British Drivers shows that since 1993, the significant reduction in broad-based road safety education and police road traffic patrols - in favour of revenue-generating speed cameras - has been accompanied by the loss of over 5000 lives to date.

The figures show that as the numbers of speed cameras soared from 1993 onwards, the downward trend in road deaths that had existed for decades was almost completely lost. Had the former trend (a year on year 6% decrease in fatalities) continued, about 5500 people that have died on the roads in the last decade would be alive today.

It is now widely accepted that the switch from traditional traffic patrols to policing by camera has caused problems on the roads. Drivers who would normally be looking for potential hazards now have to split their attention and concentrate on spotting speed cameras and watching their speedometers. At the same time uninsured, drunk and dangerous drivers now enjoy a greatly reduced chance of being apprehended as traffic police are switched to other duties. Further evidence of this is provided by the steady reduction in those apprehended for careless, dangerous and drunken driving from 232,000 in 1990 to 144,000 in 2000, a decrease of 37% in absolute terms, and a decrease of over 45% when increased traffic is allowed for.

A spokesman said
"The figures are even worse than we had expected. Regrettably, they are quite clear and undeniable."
He go'es on to say
"I wouldn't want to be running one of the so-called 'Safety Camera Partnerships' when this gets out."
==============================================

Blows a great big hole in your pathetic claim would'nt you say?.
Stick to making comments on subjects you know about.
(That would render you speechless)

Regarding the installation of 'Scameras' by,
'Organized Partnerships'? eh? yeahhh, right,
Legalized Thieves more like,
who themselves being Non Driving-Anti car Freaks, the following guidelines 'MUST' apply.

Properly administered 'Road Safety' Scams, whooops, Schemes, which would mean professional consultation with 'Normal Drivers' who are completely sane, and 'Road Users' (in full possesion of their faculties) generally who undertake thousands of miles per month of 'Accident-Free' road travel.

This would exclude the likes of George (Pi$$ artist) Painter & Co. (Ltd.)

It should not involve consultation with personnel in university departments, and must definitely not include
>'commune dwelling nudists who grow their own vegetables' and very rarely drive
(except to take their 'small terriers' to the PDSA,) (or the opticians) but who are solely concerned with acquiring government grants or any other unscrupulous means to pursue a comfortable, lavish lifestyle ultimately at the expense of the motoring public, nor those who attempt to gain recognition (and large financial rewards) by extreme overzealous enforcement of traffic laws.

COME ON YOU 'REDS'
