Re: new fuel protests ?

I have heard on our local radio that protests are planned/expected for a short interval tomorrow morning in Peterborough. Not sure how this is to be orchestrated yet though or if anyone else is planning anything. I think we do need to do something about our escalating prices before we can't afford to leave the house let alone drive a car!!

I think there may be another blockade pretty soon and there may not be much warning next time.
Maybe its wise to keep your car filled up and make sure you are stocked up with food etc....

Drivers asked to join fuel protest 'park-in'
September 30 2003, 3:44 PM
Fuel protesters around the country are urging motorists to join a
national demonstration against a rise in the price of petrol.
Chancellor Gordon Brown is expected to announce the increase of
1.28p per litre on Wednesday.
Every motorist in the UK is being asked to stop their vehicles for
one minute at 8.30am tomorrow in the midst of the rush hour.
Hauliers, motorists and taxi drivers are just some the groups being
encouraged to join the 60-second protest, organised by the People's
Fuel Lobby (PFL).
After the success of the fuel protests in September 2000, co-
ordinator Andrew Spence said he was confident people would join the
demonstration.
"We are asking the public on Wednesday October 1 that at 8.30am they
park up in the road or wherever they are for one minute," the farmer
and haulier said.
"In doing this we are sending a clear and direct message to the
Government that we will not tolerate this price increase.
"This is a plea to all motorists, hauliers and taxi drivers -
whoever is affected by this excessive fuel tax.
"It is not up to the Government - it is up to the public, it is up
to every motorist in the country."
Farmers and hauliers organised blockades in protest at high fuel
prices in September 2000 which nearly brought the UK to a halt.
Oil refineries were picketed to prevent the delivery of supplies to
petrol stations and there were go-slow convoys on motorways.
A rush for fuel caused chaos at garages and 90% ran dry before
supplies eventually arrived.

Almost forgot ,
Don't forget to show your support on 1st october 2003 08:30am.
It's show the goverment that we are ready to battle
Just read your messages, nice to see people ready to fight again, how do labour think they are going to get re-elected again.
Been looking around at some of the sights, for fuel protests, and some are a bit out of date, from the last but still some useful links and info etc.
Could do with a focal site that eveybody can converge one and show there feelings, instead of lots of small ones.
Also we need info about our local MP's email addresses etc then we can easily give them some stick.
Lets get rolling!

Will people learn to stick together this time and actually show their support, so the goverment take notice?
If all the petrol stations are boycotted for a few days I'm sure the petrol industry will lean on Mr Brown hard enough. Especially if they are paying for sales staff and hauliers to work and they are not selling anything.
