The Finalised Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Structure Plan 2001-2016 still promotes ROAD TOLLS and CAR PARKING RESTRICTIONS targeting road users. Objections to the structure plan must be submitted by 5pm on June 8.
The reference to tolls and car parking restrictions is in section 5.4 which says "Transport measures to complement the land use strategy and ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Reduction Act will be outlined in local plans and Local Transport Strategies, and amongst other things should include charging regimes, maximum car parking standards and cycle parking standards, traffic management and traffic calming".
Objections must be submitted to the Scottish Executive and this can be simply done on line by filling in the form at http://www.nest-uk.net/online_form/onlineform.htm on the NEST site. Remember, you MUST respond by June 8.
The section is 5.4. You may wish to object on the basis that restricting car access into Aberdeen and other towns would damage the local economy and divert business and trade outwith the towns and cities. You might also wish to point out that trade will be diverted to the internet, or that modern cars are not significant sources of pollution. You will probably wish top point out that moves to charging and restrictions on parking are contrary to the wishes of the population and contrary to Aberdeen City Council's own decision against imposing tolls to enter the city.
