Hi,
I'm planning to buy an SD as my first detector seeing as how everyone raves about them. However, as I'm looking at getting a good second-hand one what do people reckon I should get? My inkling is to go the whole hog and get a 2200D but the 2100 looks to be of great value too with only a 5% loss in depth over the 2200.
Any personal stories would be much appreciated.

Hi
I am also new at detecting but I have had a fair bit of luck with a borrowed SD2100. The SD2200 auto ground balance would come in handy when using certain coils and the GP with its reputed extra depth would be nice as well but it all comes at a cost. I have found nuggets from match head size to 80 grams using a standard 11 inch double D coil to a depth of around 15- 18 inches the ground I detect in is not very mineralized so I have not had much need for auto ground balance so a lot depends on where you plan to detect.Anyhow good luck the gold is still there.
p.s. Dig all your targets.

The auto tracking will help early on but ground balancing isn't at all hard to pick up.I learnt on an Extreme but couldn't afford one so I bought a 2100 and have noprobs .I havent found much gold yet but if I can pull half a .22 bullet at a measured 9"(my deepest find yet) I think I'm doing OK
