Has anyone done any tests on this machine - not Garrett or their agents - and can you give any honest comparisons to the Minelab SD2200D or GP Extreme?

It seems to have a lot of hype and of course there are plenty of people interested in it, but I wouldn't touch one until it is well and truly tested and all the bugs are ironed out.

Until then the SD2200D and the GP are all I would consider putting my money into. I'll wait and see - the price of a new Infinium is pretty close to a brand new SD2200Dv2 and in my opinion there is no question of what I'd go for. If you have the money - go for the GP Extreme at around $4450 or so. Shop around and get a good deal. I notice Jack here gives a pile of good extras with his machines and has a name as a fair dinkum bloke to deal with. Go for the best deal you can swing.

I had the chance to test the Infinium against my Minelab 2200, Gold bug II and my friends Whites gold detector. The Infinium could not hear a 9.5 gram nugget at 10 inches deep. The Minelab could hear it at 12 plus, and the Whites heard it softly at 10 inches. Tested it against a 4 grain nugget burried at 6 inches. The GoldBug, Whites, and Minelab had no problem. The Infinium did not respond. However it is very stable over mineral ground, and saltwater beaches.
Not impressed....

Amazing that including the forum question I posted on MSN's gold detecting group (exact same question) that nobody has actually answered it. Nobody has done a believable cross-test between an SD2200 and an Infinium!!! Some say its got potential, others doubt it, but no-one has posted a believable test. It still seems that no-one is allowed to talk for fear of getting their heads 'knocked off'! Please let us all know if you do!!!!
