Hi, just bought a used SD 2000, it came with the 11"DD and the 18"mono. I've used almost all of the vlf gold detectors but have never had an SD. I bought it off a private individual and not a dealer so I'm not going to get any hands on instruction. I'd appreciate any tips or instruction any users of this machine have to offer.

Thanks,
Gary in Vegas

Hi there
in reply to your message there is nothing wrong with your new machine. I have found a heap of gold with mine. and find it an extremely reliable machine.
feel free to email me with any problems you may encounter. There is a mod for the sd2000 that gives it 4 channels I find that with this mod and using coiltek coils that the machine works as well as my sd2200 except the sd2000 has no auto ground balance or disc mode.
Regards Paul

Hi Gary,
I use the SD2000 here in New Mexico with success. I really love the detector because of its stability in (hot)mineralized ground. I use the 5x10 Coiltek Eliptical coil and the 14" Coiltek Mono most of the time. I've never seen it mentioned on any of the other forums but the detector does discriminate at least as well as the Minelab XT18000 that I also use. By this I mean that as your coil approaches a gold or non-ferrous target the tone will drop then regain tone after passing the target. As the coil approaches a ferrous object (slowly) the tone will rise. You must take note though that if the target is ferrous but is too small or not close enough to the coil the tone will drop and thusly give a non-ferrous or gold signal. The same discrimination reaction is experienced with my XT18000. In other words the XT18000 will not discriminate a small boot tack for instance. It's too small!! It will give a good signal just as the SD2000 will drop in tone indicating a good signal also. Hope I made this clear enough. Anyway you have a really great detector there. Enjoy it and the very best to you in the field. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
