I'm going to Vic to try my luck. I'm going to hire a camper, and a GP extreme. I'll spend about ten days and want to give myself every opportunity. I consider myself a bushman, will use a GPS, and I'm prepared to accept all the advice I can get.

Try doing some research before you come, there are a lot of areas down here, all good nugget producers, such as:Tarnagulla, Ingalwood, Wedderburn, Moliagal, just to name a few, good luck.

Do you need a caravan camper? No you can stay in tarnagulla, its one of the most beatiful towns in central vic. What areas Peter has mentioned are good.
Do your research before you come down like visit your state library. U need to find out where the old timers lived/camped so u avoid the rubbish and work more on the fields.
An SD2200d is suffecient - Buy Jack's second edition video in which you will learn heaps on detecting, what to look for etc
Concentrate in the areas of wedderburn & inglewood for deep gold. For areas around dunnolly my suggestion is to gain a farmers permission to detect on there private land. You have more chance. Another idea is get a 8" eppelitical coil and detect around the garfield wheel in chewton - lots of fine stuff around
Good luck
