I just read the match report for Saturday's game on the Moor Greens site (
http://www.moorgreenfc.co.uk), one bit caught my eye because it just goes to show how differently some people interpret things. It's the Moor Green view of our penalty award.
"
Then, in the 55th minute, Cambridge got back on level terms with a dubious penalty. Chris Gillard clearly handled the ball as Cambridge attacked, but was standing a good foot outside the area and this seemed to be the opinion of the linesman, but the referee awarded a spot-kick to the amazement of the crowd. Martin Fox sent Adam Rachel the wrong way from the spot to bring the scores level"
As far as I could see there was nothing dubious about it. Their bloke clearly punched the ball away and it was well inside the area (at least four feet), and in fact it was the linesman who awarded it as the ref's view was obscured. Not one Moors player disputed the award, a sure sign that it was just and correct. The only thing that amazed the crowd was the fact that he saw fit to handle at all, which was summed up by one Moor's fan who shouted "what the bloody hell did he do that for?"
Whoever the writer of the report was, he should book a vist to Specsavers.
