Even at 2-0 up with 20 minutes left, some of us could see what was coming. For some reason, we sat back and allowed Hednesford to come at us, when we had caused much more trouble by taking the game to them (which is why we went 2-0 up). Someone (couldn't see who) could have cleared before Francis's equaliser - which itself was a one in a thousand shot from way out which he will never repeat in his career. Then, at 2-2, taking Gutzmore off for Nightingale was putting up the white flag - it said loud and clear that we were no longer interested in winning the game but wanted to hold on for a draw - which led to a predictable late winner.
Overall, we deserved at least a draw. Provided the players aren't demotivated by today's events, we should be OK in the long term. If we play like we did for the first hour today, we will beat most teams - hopefully starting on Monday. |
