Right I've calmed down, you asked for it, here it is -
- Would have a board with no motive other than to see City succeed. We haven't got one at the moment.
- Would have a supporter on the board, so fans are kept better informed than they are at the moment, and to bridge the them/us gap. Fan forums are a waste of time because the ones I've been to have been complete one way propaganda. I'm not suggesting it should be me, someone like Terry Dunn would be suitable in my opinion.
- Would have an experienced, respected manager who can bring the best out of the squad. If Batch really was the best man for the job, bring in a director of football to help him through the shaky beginnings and let him know where he made mistakes or things that could have been done better, similar to how Bill Leivers helped Fallon through the early days. Batch IS inexperienced. If he is to get that experience here without City suffering, I'm sure he will need help.
- Would have a ground to be proud of, much as I love the City Ground it's hardly the best ground in the league is it (and it's only 16 years old).
- Would have a decent snack bar. Do any home fans really eat that crap? At least the 'legends' bar has got some decent real ale in there now.
If any of my gripes about the board turn out to be wrong I will be the first to hold my hand up and say I was wrong, I am man enough to do that. But no matter how you look at it Batch is a yes man, brought in for the board to manipulate.
By the way, I haven't spent the last 35 years moaning. I've spent the last 3 or 4 years moaning. I have never been employed at Milton Road, or any other football club for that matter. I was not at the fans forum because I have better things to do than listen to drivel from Hamilton, Rolph etc. Telfer you're right, nothing I say will change anything but I feel better for saying it.
There you go, thats the best I can do for the moment. I really REALLY love this club, but it boils my blood to see it run the way it is.
1, It would appear that only Jacko and maybe a couple of others on here believe the board do not have the best interests of the club at heart.
2, Would a supporter on the board really help? I doubt it, as whoever this hypothetical person is would soon join them and not us and be another target of your abuse.
3, When have so-called Directors of Football worked? Most end up leaving after a few months citing differences of opinion.
4, Hopefully we will get a ground to be proud of, I dont want to leave Milton Road or merge with United either and I don't think it will happen but City will have to expand to succeed, City will not cease to exist whatever happens, we'll make sure of that.
5, I agree with you about the snack bar and the beer!
I hope I'm not going to get vilified for agreeing with Jacko on something!!
The post from Jacko attacking Dave Batch started this whole thing off. It seems to have escalated into a major debate on the state of City.
I personally am not completely happy with what goes on behind the scenes at City and I may even agree with some of the things Jacko says about it, but there is little any of us can do about how the club runs itself, it's a completely separate issue from the playing side, what really annoys me is when fans like Jacko make unwarranted attacks on the manager. I'm not really bothered about the reasons Batch was given the job, the fact is, he is the manager of the club we all support like it or not, and personally I will get behind him for the good of the team and the club. It's far too early to slate him in the way Jacko does and i don't see what good can come out of doing it.
Its always the same old bleating about David Batch from Jacko. Please stop, its getting boring. Change the record. Jacko, if you have a problem with the manager then why don`t you discuss it with him after the game tomorrow, instead of flooding this soapbox with your subjective patter. Matty is quite correct, there is little, if anything, supporters lik us can do about what takes place behind the scenes at Milton Road, for our part we should collectively be getting behind the team and Batch and trying to help encourage them to win the games that will ensure Premier Division football here next season.
I,in turn, hope that I will not be vilified for disagreeing with you on something.
But,with regards to your point No.4. How will you ensure that City don't cease to exist?
Fan power is a very powerful thing. Look at Brighton for example. Even the St.Albans fans, their club forced with bankruptcy are talking of resurrecting a new club from the ashes.
Cambridge City will survive whatever the future holds.
But lets not talk in this way, because its not going to be necessary. I, unlike Jacko, have confidence.
I'm sorry, Jacko, but that's not real ale in the Legends Bar. I assume you are referring to the Eagle Smooth, which I agree is a vast improvement on the rubbish that used to be sold but cask-conditioned real ale it is not!
