Club Statement

Steve

Don't bother reading the Club Statement. Basically, nothing has changed, we are still going up the United.
A number of clubs, in our league, have plans to relocate in the next few years, could it be they have insight into what is required, and we are being advised by a property developer, called Mr. Harwood.

Club Statement

I would like to know if there is automatic promotion and relegation to the new conference. Surely it would be preferable to get into the conference on merit and this would give us extra time to acquire our own ground.
By the way Steve, the United property developer is called John Howard.

Dotting ....

The "i`s" & crossing the "T`s" before too long & then, across the river you will go to The Abbey Stadium, with fond memories of car boot sales keeping City alive!. Bigger fish to fry, Goodbye, Clive.

Oh dear Clive....

February 22 2002, 9:18 PM

I`ve just read the statement, and two sentences stood out really.

" NO DEAL HAS BEEN DONE on either the sale of the ground or the move to anywhere else"

and

"Our advisors are still looking for a suitable site and also looking for a site for a training complex that is vital should we leave Milton Road"

Dotting of "i`s" and "t`s"? ...nope I don`t think so, sunshine. In any case, with your impending relegation to Division Three , I would have thought that you could have built a nice new SMALLER stadium for yourselves to accomodate your dwindling number of supporters, as you continue downwards to the Nationwide Conference.

And why is it every Cambridge United fan that posts on here is so arrogant? I also thought you had to be proud. What are you proud of Clive? A team that sits nicely on the bottom of Division Two and is roundly laughed at by everyone in that division, including Peterborough?

Bye Bye Clive!

TRY HARDER

February 23 2002, 12:09 AM

Thanks for the potted history Stuart. By justifying your unstinting loyalty and commitment to the Club does this absolve you of any blame when it all goes pearshaped.
Are you trying to tell us your've spent more than a year on this project, making no progress apart from getting closer to our friends across the river.

How did your own business venture go? was it the screaming success that you are predicting from the link-up, as in your own words, any hope of finding an alternative site, for the ground, appears beyond your capability.

Take a leaf out of Wimbledon's books and keep trying.

Hinderance

February 23 2002, 10:28 AM

The Cambridge news recently reported that more green belt land is to be released for housing around Cambridge. Have these planning changes been taken into account in your thinking, or was the announcment seen as more of a hinderance to your plans? If the Council are going to relax the planning restrictions around Cambridge it may be better to wait. Apparently, Cambridge United have other souces of funding to pursue, so let them get on with it as they sound pretty desperate to me.

Leisure facilities

February 23 2002, 10:46 AM

I thought I read somewhere that new housing schemes that are up for planning permission have to have some sort of leisure facilities attached to them. I`m thinking of the Arbury Camp site off Histon Road. There is housing planned for that area, as I understand it, and couldn`t the leisure facility be the new Cambridge City football ground and training complex?
I hope the club are looking at all the possibilities before thinking about teaming up with Cambridge United. I was in favour of going up Newmarket Road in the first place, but as time has gone on I`ve began to have my doubts about going there. I think it would be better if we could re-locate to our own stadium.
We don`t need Cambridge United

What's the hurry?

February 23 2002, 3:44 PM

It seems to me that the desperation to enter the new conference set-up at it's formation will lead to a hasty decision with the sale of Milton Road with a move to the Abbey being the quick and easy option rather than a thorough examination into what is truely best for the future of the club. Who's to say that we wouldn't get relegated in the first season anyway!

Not Easy

February 23 2002, 9:43 PM

I can sympathize with Mr. Hamilton as it was never going to be easy finding a new ground. You only have to look at Chelmsford. Cambridge City should be thankful they already have a ground of their own.
It might be helpful to find out how far out of Chelmsford they were looking, as Mr Hamilton seems reluctant to tell us how far out of Cambridge we can go, that is if he's even bothered to find out. If it was the village of Boreham, Chelmsford were looking at, this seems to take us out as far as Waterbeach, Oakington, Fulbourn and Great Shelford.

My feeling is that Cambridge City hold all the cards and United only enter the equation when they pay, along with the rest of the community, to use our training pitches. New leisure facilities are required in any expanding community and the grants available are extremely generous because they wish to encourage community projects.

Nice C.V Stuart.....

February 23 2002, 3:20 PM

but unfortunately you don't qualify as a City fan as you didn't bother to come for 10 years. What about the other City fans? don't their opinions count? Your entire statement is all me, me, me....... When the fans want hear positives regarding the new developments around Cambridge.

Stuart's CV.....

February 23 2002, 5:47 PM

Was there really any need for a CV of Stuart Hamilton to be put in the statement??

Alright there was an update on re-location, but are we really interested in some drivvel about how he sold programmes on Match Days forty years ago??.

I have to agree with what someone put on here earlier, the site at Arbury Camps has/was earmarked for leisure - maybe this might be worth pursuing?? Or have the 'advisors' already pursued it??

Why do we have to even think about going in with United? We all know their financial circumstances. Why not just do our own thing??
