In todays CEN the manager says we are an improving team.I don't think most people that have seen recent displays would agree, especially since our dive down the table lately.

Coaching

March 8 2002, 7:19 PM

Great emphasis was placed on David's UEFA coaching badge, I'm not sure how you spell that, sorry. I'm sure it's not David's fault but why if he is so qualified can he only spend one hour a week coaching the first team? It does look like we will have to re-structure to allow David more time to spend with the first team. I do find it strange when we have placed great emphasis on training pitches that the first team Manager only has one hour with the first team. Surely the first team should take priority. I do realise that the business side of the club is growing and though I am very patient I would like to see us higher up the table. I've noticed that the academy has generated some new fans but if Tuesdays gate was anything to go by we have lost some as well.

Lack of Interest

March 8 2002, 9:11 PM

The sudden, total lack of interest in the club,is shown by last Tuesdays gate, and also by the absence of posts on this forum !
To say that the manager has one hour per week with the team is surely nothing new.Don't forget that these players have full time jobs outside Football, also only one or two live in Cambridge.
Youth and Schoolboy teams need coaching, part time pros need motivating.

In the past week there has been 700 hits on the Website not so many postings by comparison. Are fans useing this access to the Official Site as I am interested to find out?
I agree attendances are a bit worrying. It makes absolute nonsense of moving to a larger ground, a ground outside Town of approximately the same size would be adequate. (with room for expansion) For all Gez George's good work bringing in the kids not many want to become regular fans, so it would be better to look after those that are left.
Lillywhite made a good point about all player not living in Cambridge affecting coaching. We should not be surprised if there is a mass clear out at the end of the season with the Leicester based players top of the list?

Training

March 9 2002, 4:31 PM

One hour a week training has got nothing whatsoever to do with travelling distances . For the most part of the season floodlight allweather facilities are required and there is a shortage of venues in Cambridge.Hence the plans for our own in the Chesterton school, a project that is still ongoing but taking longer than expected to arrange.

One hour !

March 10 2002, 12:13 AM

'Putting it right for next season@ has everything to do with travelling distances. It would be interesting to know how the manager intends to gain more than one hour next season.
Schoolboys and youths need coaching and although we can all still learn the first team need motivating.

Sign of the Times

Hows about a wind tunnel to help the players control the ball in high winds. Hows about a skid pan to help the players keep their feet in wet muddy conditions

and you think I'm talking a load of bollacks!

Do you think it is Cambridge United fans wanting to find out about the freehandouts? I bet they can't believe there is anyone that stupid.
